CAN YOU DRINK AND DRIVE A GOLF CART IN KEY WEST?
Short answer? No. Even in paradise, you can’t drink and drive a golf cart in Key West.
We get it. You’re on island time. The sun is shining, music is spilling out onto Duval Street, and frozen drinks seem to be everywhere you turn. Golf carts feel relaxed and beachy, and it’s easy to think they’re different than cars. But under Florida law, golf carts are still motor vehicles, which means DUI laws apply the same way they do in a car.
Golf cart rentals in Key West are one of the absolute best ways to explore the island. You can cruise from the Southernmost Point to Mallory Square, glide past the Historic Seaport, swing over to Smathers Beach, and make your way to Fort Zachary Taylor without ever worrying about squeezing a full-size car into tight Old Town streets. It’s open-air, breezy, and about as “Key West” as it gets.
If drinks are part of the plan, just make sure someone in your group is your designated driver.
